Walk With Your Best Friend Against Abuse

One Mile Walk Against Abuse Where: Start and End at the Gazebo on the Square

The Medina County Battered Women’s Shelter is excited to bring to the Medina community the 7" annual "Walk With Your Best Friend Against Abuse" awareness and fundraising event!  "Walk With Your Best Friend Against Abuse" is the only 2014 Medina County fundraiser to support the over 1,600 Medina County domestic abuse victims that we serve each year.  Proceeds help us to sustain our mission to lead the community by providing hot line services, emergency shelter, support, advocacy, and education in an effort to break the cycle of abuse and promote peace to families throughout Medina County.

Each year, we hold this family & dog-friendly event on the 1st Saturday of October to observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  This year's event will be held on the Square of Medina, October 4, 2014 from 10:00am - 1:00pm.  The event will include a one-mile walk (with your furry best friend), dog costume contest, doggy demo, music, information tables, refreshments and more!

According to a study conducted by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 85.4% of women and 63% of children entering domestic violence shelters reported incidents of pet abuse (aspca.org).  The purpose of our event is to bring awareness to the link between pet abuse and domestic violence and to raise crucial funds for our services to domestic violence victims in Medina County.

The mission of the Battered Women's Shelter is to lead the community in the prevention of domestic abuse by providing emergency shelter, advocacy and education throughout Summit and Medina Counties, all in an effort to break the cycle of abuse and help promote peace in every family.
